Buying Glider Rocker Cushions

Glider rockers are today’s equivalent of your grandmother’s hard as a rock wooden rocking chair. No longer must we rock on a hard surface in an upward and downward fashion. Instead, we can now sink into plush glider rocker cushions and smoothly slide back and forth in a easy, soft motion. Many rockers also include matching glider ottomans with cushions that complete the total relaxation offered by gliders.

Just as the rockers come in different shapes, sizes and materials, so too do the glider rocker cushions that offer 50% of the comfort of these special chairs. Since some of the rockers feature non removable cushions, replacing them is sometimes a necessity. Often, moms and dads rock their babies and young children in gliders and as a result, spills and stains occur which can also be cause for replacement.

If staining or a simple change in décor tastes has you looking to replace your glider rocker cushions, here are some questions to ask yourself before purchasing:

Where is the glider located? If you own Adirondack glider rockers and they all of their time outdoors, you will definitely need to purchase outdoor glider rocker cushions. The material is made to withstand the weather and elements however, on very windy or extremely wet days, it may be a good idea to grab the cushions and bring them indoors either through a garage or into a shed or other storage area.

If the chair or chairs are located indoors then the second thing you must ask is, “Is it washable?” Often glider rocker cushions are made with zippered on cases that can be removed for washing. With that said, it it’s important to check manufacturer’s suggested cleaning procedures because some upholstery may require dry cleaning rather than simple at home washer cycles.

How much use will the glider get? If the answer is a whole lot of use then consider vinyl or leather glider rocker cushions. These will be the most durable and can often be wiped clean and kept looking new easier than fabric cushions. Leather is going to be one of the more expensive textiles however, it will prove to be long lasting and worth the investment in the end.

Can I make them or have them made?  If your existing décor or taste preferences requires a specific fabric or upholstery, then you should probably seek out the custom made option. Many seamstresses offer custom made pillow cases with zipper enclosures or if you’re the crafty type, you can create your own glider rocker cushions by purchasing a foam seat cushion and sewing your own cushion pillow case.
